Summary: Board Study Book
Rating: 4

I purchased this book to help prepare for the Pedi GI Boards. It served as an excellent resource for reviewing details of pediatric GI diseases. This edition has been expanded from the previous, and is much more complete. It is more manageable for studying than the "Walker" textbook. The book was listed as "new" but arrived from Amazon.com with a dent in the side of the book which damaged many of the pages. I did not have time to return, so used as is. I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the damage.
Summary: Highly recommend this book!
Rating: 5

The current edition is light years better than the previous editions in terms of selection of topics, detail of the explanations, and more up to date information. This book is not as comprehensive as the 2 volume set from the folks in Boston, but that is actually a plus because that makes it much easier to read and process the information. This book is useful for anyone studying for the boards, as the book follows well the ABP contents and provides enough information to get you thru. The on-line question bank however, leaves much to desire because the later chapters contain many errors. Also there is no CD for the book, unlike the Walker 2 volume set that lets you print off a computer. In all, it's by far one of the best medical textbook I own. It is also one that I have actually read cover to cover more than once and was able to retain the information.

Nowadays, we are dealing more frequently with the entity of large intestine polyps, as endoscopy and bowel cancer screening programmes are rapidly expanding. Often a single polyp is involved, but more complex situations are also encountered, including the well-defined pattern of polyposis. New developments in pathophysiology and treatment options are leading to new questions. This handbook aims to offer a integrated approach for all physicians (doctors) who deal with these issues, by presenting up-to-date discussion from genetics through treatment, to implications of genetic counseling. It will also help specialists to offer more "evidence-based" treatments, by implementing the best clinical individual judgement informed by the best current scientific evidence.

Giulio Aniello Santoro, Giuseppe Di Falco, N. Simeoni, G.G. Delaini, "Benign Anorectal Diseases: Diagnosis with Endoanal and Endorectal Ultrasound and New Treatment Options"
Springer; 1st edition (April 11, 2006) | English | 8847003369 | 424 pages | PDF | 18.37 MB

New three-dimensional endoanal and endorectal ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging techniques have given better insight into the complex anatomy of the pelvic floor and its pathologic modification in benign anorectal diseases. Obstetrical events leading to fecal incontinence in females, the relationship between fistulous tracks and the sphincter complex, and mechanisms of obstructed defecation syndrome can now be accurately evaluated, which is of fundamental importance for decision making. Thanks to improvements in the diagnosis of these disorders, new forms of treatment have been developed with better outcome for patients.
This book is aimed at general and colorectal surgeons, radiologists, gastroenterologists and gynecologists with a special interest in this field. It is also relevant to everyone who wants to improve their understanding of the fundamental principles of pelvic floor disorders.
