Product Description:
One of the most time-consuming tasks in clinical medicine is seeking the opinions of specialist colleagues. There is a pressure not only to make referrals appropriate but also to summarize the case well in the language of the specialist. Cardiology is an essential tool in this task. It explains basic physiologic and pathophysiologic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease in a straightforward and diagrammatic manner, gives guidelines as to when referral is appropriate, and, uniquely, explains what the specialist is likely to do. This facilitates an understanding of the specialty not available from standard textbooks. Specific sections focus on understanding cardiology specialist tests (as explained in clinic or discharge letters), conquering the ECG, and explaining the basic science so often discussed without introduction in seminars and any hospital doctor, generalist, or even senior medical student who may need a cardiology opinion, or for that matter, anyone who simply wants some of Cardiology - explained.
Summary: Outstanding cardiology reference for noncardiologists and aspiring cardiologists alike.
Rating: 5
This book really did explain cardiology with exactly the right balance of detail and conciseness to learn it well. It begins with to-the-point caveats about the cardiac physical exam, ECG, and echocardiogram, and builds upon these concepts in later chapters addressing all the major topics in cardiology. The further reading recommendations keep the text up-to-date and the historical side-bars are highly entertaining. Most importantly, it is a smart yet practical guide to the noncardiologist and aspiring cardiologist alike. I would highly recommend this text to anyone with a remote interest in cardiology. You may just decide to go into the field!
Summary: A wonderfull insight into the world of cardiology
Rating: 5
This is the perfect read if you are looking for a overview of the heart and the pathologies associated with it. It is easy to follow and explains everthing you want to know about cardiology.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing how the cardiologist makes his/her diagnosis and to anyone who has a passion for human physiology.
Summary: Great book for explaining the basics of cardiology
Rating: 5
This book is a simple yet surprisingly comprehensive review of the basic topics within cardiology, covering topics ranging from the ECG to heart failure. As a medical student, I found it helpful in explaining basic concepts in a compact and concise text, and even found it useful in preparing for my medicine clinical rotation. I am surprised at the lack of available cardiology texts that are suitable for non-cardiologists; this is definitely such a text.
